Recycling Program

of gas cartridges

Our aim is to promote environmental awareness and facilitate the proper disposal, collection and recycling of camping gas cartridges, preventing them from being sent to dumps or landfills.

Understand the problem

In Brazil, more than 1,800,000 gas cartridges are sold annually for use in stoves during outdoor activities or in commercial enterprises, such as hotels and restaurants. Among users, doubts about how and where these cartridges can be correctly disposed of when empty are very common.

Due to a lack of information and collection points, these cartridges are discarded in the general waste, without being emptied properly, and end up in landfills or local dumps.

We created the solution!

If the proper procedures are followed, the correct disposal of these cartridges is entirely possible. But not only that: these containers are made from materials that can be completely recycled. In this way, it is possible to reduce the generation of this type of waste by reinserting this material into the national production chain.

To this end, we created the Gear Tips Recycling Program, which was designed by Pedro Lacaz Amaral and structured by Bruno Negreiros, Social and Environmental Responsibility Coordinator at Gear Tips. The gas cartridge collector was designed by Victor Cruz, from Grão Coworking, while Davi Rezende was responsible for the design and manufacture.

The program is currently supported by sponsoring companies and Gear Tips, which contributes 10% of all Club and event subscription sales to its maintenance.

Get to know our solution

In a partnership with Grão Coworking and designer Davi Rezende, we created a specific collector to allow the correct disposal of gas cartridges, which includes an emptying valve and a piercing lever. These collectors are available to the public at selected collection points among our network of partners. All cartridges deposited in the collectors are collected and sent to recycling companies that will carry out the process of transforming this waste into raw material to feed the steel industry. This way we create a sustainable life cycle for gas cartridges that would previously end up in landfills and dumps.

See how easy it is to dispose of

The Collection Points receive all models of camping gas cartridges, including CampGás, TekGás, MaxxGás, Cartucho 190g, among others, whether they are threaded, perforated or others.

In order to dispose of gas cartridges properly so that they can be recycled, it is essential to completely empty the gas and puncture the cartridge as an extra safety measure. This is precisely why the collector we created has an emptying valve and a piercing lever. Check out the step-by-step below:

Empty
Empty the gas cartridge completely at home or use our collector to empty it before drilling

Drill
With the cartridge empty, use the lever on the collector to pierce the cartridge and make it unusable.

Disposal
Dispose of the cartridge safely by placing it in the Gear Tips Recycling Program collector.

What happens next?
When a collector is full, the person in charge of that point sends the cartridges to a recycling company in the city.
